Starting a building project

Top tips for making your project run smoothly

Being armed with all the answers you can envisage before you begin makes the whole building experience so much easier, from decision making to comfort throughout, there will always be unexpected things that come along during a project, for instance you don’t know what you’re going to dig up when you dig down.

Choosing your design

Get an idea of what you'd like before seeing your architect

If you want this to be your vision rather than purely the architects it’s a good idea to see what’s possible, we’ve put together some examples and estimated prices in order for you to visualise what you would like.

Architect & planning

See what's possible and what's not

A good architect will design your build to achieve the best possible result while navigating potential challenges, such as sewerage and other legal requirements, before your planning application. With our own in-house architects, we ensure every detail is considered and handled seamlessly from start to finish. In addition to our own team we can also work with your chosen architects to bring your ideas to life.

Making the important choices

Usually during a building project, you’ll find that there are many decisions you’ll need to make and many with little time to make them which means snap decisions on permanent items that are costly to change.

We don’t do this, we take you through these important choices to give you enough time to make informed decisions so when everything is completed you are totally happy with the results.

What kind of things should I be choosing?

If you keep it simply down to heating, lighting and water and refer to the image here you can get an idea ofwhat you need.

bathroom

Hidden Cistern: requires cold water connection

Hanging toilet: requires hidden soil pipe in wall

Sink on hanging unit:
Requires hot and cold water supply to separate tap
(these can be wherever you want them)
The waste water must also go back into the wall and join the waste

Backlit mirror:
Requires hidden electric supply

you would also need to specify)

Stay or move out?

Building an extension is disruptive...

For larger builds, it can be helpful to move out during the project. This allows you to avoid the disruptions of construction, gives you peace of mind knowing the work is progressing smoothly, and ensures the team can focus fully on the build without interruptions. It also helps minimise the impact on your daily life, making the process more manageable and less stressful.

Get some storage

In order to make the experience as smooth and stress free as possible it’s a good idea to put your things into storage, even if you are planning to stay in the property, this way you don’t have to keep moving things around and when the project is complete, you can choose what to bring back in. Often, a new space can inspire fresh ideas for how you’d like to style, organise and live in it.
